I’ve mentioned before how I often have trouble feeding Baby A. I’m not alone in this to be fair – everyone who’s tried this has gone through the same thing with him; but Mummy A seems to have more of a knack to it than me. I’ve often spent half an hour struggling to make him drink, at which point Mummy A would pick him up and he would start drinking straight away.
That sort of thing puts all sorts of doubts in your head. Why does he not want to drink with me? Does he not like me? Do I not hold him right?
It is probably fair enough – after all, Mummy A spends all day with him, every day. Also, it does mean that I don’t have to spend ages feeding him (and it can take ages!). But still…it’s not nice. I feel almost jealous.
Now he’s started this new thing. Mummy A says the other day “Let’s play a game. You hold him, and let’s see if he comes to me”.
We’ve never tried that before, so why not?
So, I hold him in my arms. She claps her hands and holds her arms out towards him. He hasn’t quite got the knack of holding his arms out himself, but he suddenly starts fidgeting and leaning towards Mummy A…..he practically fell out of my arms! It was really exciting seeing that – surely it means he has started recognising people.
“Let me try now,” I said excitedly.
So Mummy A holds him up. I clap my hands and hold my hands out. He looks towards me with a cute expression on his face and……turns away.
Gutted.
