Sit down and play with me!

Well, here’s something. Baby A has finally got off his arse and hit a development. He has actually sat up. Er…on his arse.

Yep, that’s right, he is now sitting up – and without any support from us! Correction: he can’t actually lift himself up yet…he still needs us to lift him into a sitting position. But hey, he is fully unsupported.

Of course, sitting up lends a whole new dimension to the way he plays. We were worried that he was bored of his play mat since he never wanted to lie stil on it. Now he can sit though….he can lift things up, move things about. And of course…put things in his mouth. Seems like everything has to go in his mouth nowadays.

It means he is able to occupy himself for a little while, allowing us to do the important things around the house. Like watch TV.

Of course, this being Baby A, you can never leave him alone for too long.  He is quite happy to play with his toys for a while…but every now and again he looks around….just to see where we are. If we’re there, he will play a little longer. Or sometimes maybe he’ll call us (“Uh….uh…uh,” means “Come over here,” in Ayaan language).

However, if we’re not there….put it this way, I’m thinking of sending my ear drums on vacation. Still a bit clingy that one.

Being early days, he does fall over on occasion, but he’s a durable thing and is normally alright. Unless he gets on to his stomach, in which case….well, we al now THAT one. I’ve noticed that often, when he does his “wobbly baby” moves, he grabs his own feet to stop himself toppling over. Clever lad.

Smart…or just pretends to be?

We’ve got this playmat which Baby A just loves. It’s amazing how he doesn’t get bored of it considering we put him on it for maybe 45 minutes every single day.

It’s got this little toy attached to the top – a cat holding a ball (you can see it in the picture). If you spin the ball, it plays a short tune.

Baby A gets very excited when the music plays. He’s got big enough that he can now reach the cat to hit it himself.

At first he was hitting it all over the place, but we suddenly heard the music playing the other day! He’s actually learnt that if he hits just the ball and makes it spin, the music will play.

I’m really impressed. Is this a sign of a smart kid or what?

…..then again, maybe he just got lucky……

It’s not all moans and groans

I know I’ve talked about how he keeps us up at night, he cries too much, his messy nappies….but it’s not all bad. I think he is cute and adorable (biased opinion I know) and love the way he stares at the oddest things (usually his own hand….which he is weirdly fascinated by).

The best moment is when you put him on the playmat and he spends ages just kicking his legs and alternating between his “superman” impression and his “driving a car” impression!

He’s in an especially playful mood in the mornings when he is much more smiley and happy. Wouldn’t change anything for the world.
